Wedding in Occidental Grand Flamenco Resort in Riviera Maya?
My fiance and I are flying out to Mexico June 2007 to get married in the above resort. Has anyone on here been to that resort, or even got married over there? What can I expect?
Also has anyone been to Xcaret Park – and can you advise me on price and what to expect. Thanks
I love this resort! I went last January and we are going again in June. The pools are beautiful and the beach is small, but well maintained (even beach bar service!) You can relax…look at the sea…and have someone bringing you refreshing fruity beverages (and it is all included!) We found that even though your tips are included, a few dollars here and there gets you FABULOUS service! The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is someone assigned to every building to assist you with dinner reservations and booking tours. HINT: schedule ALL of your dinners on your first day. They tend to fill fast and although the buffet is VERY good, a served dinner is better!
Xcaret park is very nice (and included in your package). The snorkeling was very good (a little cool temp wise, but you adjust quickly). The horse show is very good…sit at the restaurant next to the horse show and order a margarita (very good and very large) you will have a good seat and a good drink at the same time. The evening show is worth watching. It is a little long, but informative and the costuming and music is very entertaining.
As far as the evening entertainment at the resort…it is a little campy (cruise line like), but the drinks are great and we found that it was then that we met some amazing people from around the globe! The disco was barren…we found that we just invited a bunch of folks that we met the swim-up pool bar (under a water fall) and folks from the evening performance up to the disco and created our own party! Make it what you want it!
Another VERY GOOD MUST DO thing is Xel-Ha. It is an eco-park with beautiful snorkeling, good food, cliff jumping etc. Go for the all inclusive booked through the hotel. It includes transportation, food, all drinks alcoholic and non, snorkeling, towels, lockers etc. It is worth it! Xel-Ha is the closest to the garden of Eden that I can think of.
THe most beautiful snorkeling is off shore. Take the Maroma Catamaran Snorkel tour. It is a few hours of sailing and 3 snorkel dives. THe reef is the 2nd largest (Australia #1) and is beautiful!!! The starfish are the size of dinner plates!
The ferry to Cozumel is only about 4 miles from the resort and costs around $12 US. Shopping is pretty good (silver, opals, onyx, etc) The open air markets are good for bartering and you can get a good deal on many items.
As you can see, I have a passion for this area! I loved my experience there and I hope that you have a magical time as well.
Hope this was helpful!
